Problem using GNOME apps in KDE
I heard or read somewhere that a person can use the upgrade version of WinXP to do a CLEAN install, even though he has a PRE-INSTALLED version of Win98 or Win ME, and he does not have a Win CD. That is, if a person wanted to do a clean install of WinXP, is there is a way that he can do so using the WinXP upgrade

Was wondering if I can buy the Win XP Pro upgrade, and then install it on a newly formatted hard disk without first installing Win 98. I suppose I can, and it will just ask me for my Win 98 key? I would prefer a clean install over installing it on top of Win 98.

If you "upgrade," there will be problems with config files that will have to be changed. My shift from 2007.1 to 2008.0 was an "upgrade," and it was several weeks before I had the wrinkles worked out of my system to satisfaction. A clean install in a new partition is a much better solution.

I'm wondering what sort of advantages/disadvantages there are when you do an upgrade versus an clean install. I will have the luxury of having the 2000 server pre-installed on a separate box from the 7.0 server. Could I load a 7.0 database into a 2000 server, or do I have to bcp the data over?

Hi, I have just ordered a WinMe upgrade disk. I would like to do a clean install with it, can I format my HD and install the upgrade. I have in the past been able to do such as that by inserting the old disk (Win 98 SE) then the software would install. Can you do this with ME? Thanks in advance.

At one point in the installation it did tell me that I would have to insert a previous version CD, but it never actually required it. So relax, it will work.
